Consent Education
People with Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome often struggle to understand and communicate consent. They often don’t know when to say yes or no and how to express it. While drama therapy helps practice real-life situations through non-verbal roleplay and builds confidence in setting boundaries, it reaches far too few people who need it.
We created Boundaries, a non-verbal interactive story in collaboration with Netflix where the audience controls what happens. You follow Boundie, the main character and role model, as he encounters other characters who struggle with boundaries in different ways. Through choosing to stop or continue actions, viewers see Boundie react to wrong choices, learning that their decisions have consequences.
The story makes consent education accessible without requiring verbal communication, reaching people who can't access traditional drama therapy. To ensure the lessons stick beyond the story, we designed the characters as plush toys. Since many important moments involving consent happen in bedrooms, these toys serve as daily reminders in their personal spaces.
